Last week, Toorak Primary School welcomed literacy consultant Misty Adoniou, to continue building staff capacity in the area of writing. Following on from Misty’s previous work in 2019, staff were shown strategies to enhance writing non-narrative texts. Our teachers were engaged in discussions about the use of quality mentor texts to develop vocabulary, support comprehension and enhance writing. Misty spoke about the importance of text selection, vocabulary and connecting students to advanced texts through the use of visuals.
Our teachers have been inspired and are in the process of trialing some of the strategies provided by Misty to enhance student writing. We look forward to sharing our progress!
