Day 4 Canberra Camp

Hi Parents,

This morning, the students had the luxury of an extra half hour sleep in. After breakfast, we headed off to Government House which is the residence of the Governor General, Peter Cosgrove. Unfortunately he was in Sydney on important business, so we didn’t get to meet him. However, we did get to walk around his amazing gardens and see the huge dining room.

After that, our two groups went separate ways. Group 1 went to the National Museum of Australia and also visited the Museum of Australian Democracy. Here students had the opportunity to sit in the House of Representatives and role play a debate led by the speaker. Group 2 participated in the Reconciliation Place Walk as well as visited the Electoral Education Centre where they had the chance to vote!

We enjoyed lunch altogether in the lovely Senate gardens, which are located next to Old Parliament House.

Then it was finally time for the much anticipated visit to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). Students went on a guided tour for 45 minutes, witnessing gymnasts in action, the volleyball courts, the gym and swimming complex. One incredible fact we learnt was that the Olympic sized pool cost 17 million dollars to build!

We got to spend our last night back at the accommodation having some free time with our friends. We are up early tomorrow morning for our big trip back to Melbourne – see you soon!
