Empowered Sleep Program – Week 4

Illustrated by Inma Lorente

Welcome to Week 4!

We are now over half way through the program. Our weekly reflection for this week is – ‘Your body is your greatest and most loyal friend. What is it telling you today? And are you going to listen?’

The amazing (and sometimes uncomfortable) thing about our body is that it never ever lies. It always tells the truth and gives you honest feedback about where things are at. We simply cannot escape the consequences of our choices when it comes to our body.

What we can do though, is use things to try to numb or medicate our way out of feeling when our choices have not been very supportive. Things like sugar and other foods that stimulate or dull are great ways to avoid feeling what our body is trying to communicate. Food is not the only way – in fact we all have very deliberate, strategic and calculated ways to avoid feeling the uncomfortableness of our choices.

All of this is affecting our sleep and our ability to rest and restore. For example, if we over-ride when we feel tired this affects us and might then make us crave sugar (or coffee!).

Great to become aware of these things at a young age to have the awareness and opportunity to make different choices!

So this week, you can encourage your children to listen to what their body is communicating to them and reminding them that they know their body more than anyone and likewise, their body knows them better than anyone ever will! So to listen very carefully.

Enjoy all that Week 4 offers!
