Dear Grade 2 Parents,
Homework will be handed out on Friday (22/02). It will be handed out each Friday and is due the following Thursday.
This year students will be completing:
- a daily reading log (for 15 minutes, 5 days a week)
- Mathletics online (1-2 tasks assigned by maths group teacher)
- Literacy Planet online (1-2 tasks assigned by spelling group teacher)
- either ‘Big Write brainstorm homework’ or an Inquiry task
DAILY READING
Students need to bring their maroon reader bags to school to change home readers (if students get 3 home readers a week, they can have 2 nights of reading free choice books at home)A Home
Reading Log will be stuck into children’s homework books. Can this please be filled out after each day.
Parent Pipelines will be sent home some weeks if we want parents to focus on a particular CAFE strategy with their children
LITERACY PLANET
Extension tasks (if your child wants a challenge) are:
- what other words can you think of with the same grapheme/phoneme? (come up with a list of 5 other words)
- to add a prefix or suffix to any of the words in your spelling homework to make a new word?
MATHLETICS
Extension tasks (if your child wants a challenge) are:
- to show your working out on a piece of paper and explain how you got your answer? (reasoning)
- can you work it out another way or using a different strategy? (understanding)
BIG WRITE BRAINSTORM
Students should:
- brainstorm of ideas to develop a piece of literature the students will write on the Thursday of the next week during the Big Write time
- sit down with your child and have a discussion of the topic, develop ideas and get your child to fill out a brainstorm mind map (please see the attached photo)
- write down key words/ideas on a mind map or list
