Grade 2 – Polly Woodside Excursion

On Thursday the 26th of May, students from Grade 2 went on an excursion to Polly Woodside and enjoyed a cruise along the Yarra River, which links to our inquiry topic of water as a precious resource. Our first stop was to the Polly Woodside boat, where students were able to experience life on a ship that was built some 130 years ago. We then boarded a cruise which travelled down the Yarra River for an hour.

Below are some photos from the excursion and comments students made regarding their experience on deck.

“I enjoyed going to the ‘tween deck and seeing Romy and Will get coal all over their faces.” Molly20160526_113853

“The steering wheel needs two people to turn it and you stand behind it. A bell is used for danger. On the left side is one ring, on the right side is two rings and straight ahead is three rings.” Oliver

“I learnt about life on the Polly Woodside. Half of the sailors slept for eight hours and half of the sailors would work for eight hours and then they swapped all the time.” Abdullah

“They had to use rope instead of toilet paper. Yuk!” Jordan

“At the Polly Woodside I enjoyed going on the ship. I got to go in their quarters. It was fun, I’m busting to go there again!” Hugo
