I had the pleasure of visiting our Interschool Chess team at the Victorian Grand Final hosted by Balwyn North. It was wonderful to see our players, Daniel, Jasper, Grayson, Oliver and Christian demonstrating the Toorak Citizenship attributes of respect, honesty and kindness throughout the tournament. The level of competition was very tough with most teams consisting of students in grade 5 and 6. The boys were supportive of each other and of their competitors. It was also very impressive to see Christian, who is in grade 2, stay calm and collected when competing against students with many more years of experience.
At the end of the event the team came 18th but it was noted by George, our Chess teacher, that they have a lot of potential for future competitions. Toorak Primary is very proud of our team!
Next year there may also be two Chess Club groups at Toorak Primary. One group will be to introduce Chess to interested students and the other group will be to extend and challenge our more experienced players.
