Junior School Council
The Junior School Council provides opportunities for students to actively participate in the decision making processes and fundraising events at our school. Council representatives are encouraged to model a caring responsible attitude towards their peers, their school and their community.
In 2008, the Council ran a successful Trash and Treasure Stall over three lunchtimes. Many students donated their old books, toys and clothes. Over $300 was raised and used to sponsor a litter of Guide Dog puppies for one year. We also held the Longest Coin Line, in conjunction with Numeracy Week. Over $700 was raised and given to the State School’s Relief Fund.
As part of the Leadership Program, grade 5/6 students run workshops in our meetings to teach younger students about how to be a good leader. Workshops include organising events, public speaking, and running effective meetings. The workshops have provided older students with the opportunity to pass on their knowledge and put leadership skills into practice. In 2009, we are sponsoring the Starlight Foundation and Friends of the Yarra through our ‘Funky Fashion Parade’ on June 19th.
