Performing Arts
Toorak Primary School is well known for its performing arts program. The main aim of our program is to encourage every child to foster a love of music through the development of skills and understandings. During classroom music lessons, students acquire knowledge and skills regarding basic music concepts such as pitch, rhythm, tone and structure.
The whole-school musical is a biannual event that involves the whole school community including staff, parents and students. Every student has a role in the musical, whether it is on the stage in front of the audience or behind the scenes assisting with props, lighting or sound.
All children from Grades 3 to 6 have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. The children who are not involved in the instrumental music program learn the recorder. Recorder groups perform at assemblies and at the school’s annual Soiree.
Our instrumental music program is run by Red Notes. Specialist music teachers visit our school, providing students a choice in the musical instruments they would like to learn.
Each year children who are part of our recorder program, or who learn an instrument, perform at the school Soiree. The night provides a special opportunity for students to showcase their talents to our community.
This year we have a Junior Choir, Senior Funky Choir and a School Rock Band. They perform at school concerts and assemblies as well as some community venues such as the Royal Children's Hospital.
