Sports Update

Hooptime

Last week the grade 3s had their first ever interschool team competition with Hoop Time! Grades 4s, 5s and 6s also participated in the competition over two days. We entered 16 teams for the 3/4 competition on Wednesday 22 August and 14 teams on Friday 24 August for the 5/6 competition. We are very lucky to have teams from both days progress to the next level of competition (dates to be advised). Thank you to Stuart and the class teachers who helped coordinate teams. Hoop Time can be hectic at the best of times and we are very appreciative of the parents and teachers who attended and ensured we were able to get the teams to the right courts on time and were able to be flexible and work around the difficulties of the day.

This year we trialled having 5/6 students attend to help with the running of the 3/4 competition including Lily, Pia, Ella, Sophia, Eloise, Emma, Ruby, Carlos, Andy, Alex, Sinead, Ziya and Kaaya. These students did a wonderful job of coaching the Hoop Time teams and displayed exemplary behaviour throughout the day. These students showed responsibility and organisational skills by making sure teams got to their games on time and they encouraged their teams to do their best. A special mention to Stuart, Emma, Ella and Lily who stepped in to referee when Basketball Victoria didn’t have enough referees for the competition. It is a very big deal to ref an interschool match and we are very appreciative of the service they were able to provide with limited notice for the competition to run.

Prahran Girls under 12 Premiers

Pia, Emma, Lily and Ava played in the Under 12 girls South Metro Football competition over the weekend and became premiers, winning the final by 2 goals! Ava and Lily did well and played in defence, while Pia played forward and mid and Emma played mid. Well done girls, we can only hope Hawthorn does the same thing come September!

Sporting School Grant – Tennis

Toorak Primary have recently secured a Federally funded tennis grant through the Sporting Schools program. So, this means that for four weeks (from now to the end of term) every student in the school will participate in four tennis focused lessons with the support of two tennis coaches Jack and Jon, who are from the Victorian Tennis Academy which are based at the Orrong Road tennis courts on Orrong Road.

Athletics
We have over 20 students competing in the Beachside Athletics Carnival at Lakeside Stadium on Friday September 7. We wish them well on the day!

Girls Softball State Final
Congratulations to Andy Patterson and Josephine who have coached our girls’ Softball team into the state final which will take place at Jells Park on Wednesday September 12.

Basketball Playoffs
Toorak will field a 5/6 boys and girls team for the interschool basketball payoffs in the coming weeks, dates and times tbc.
