Sustainability education – learn skills for life and work.

This week, Mr Beck taught the Grade 5 and6 students how to start a social enterprise: “The Social Seedling”.

Unlike common business enterprises where profits only benefit the company shareholders, we will trade to make a profit which is 100% given back to the community.

Students research and design their own seedling range: from market research, to calculating profit margins and propagating the seedlings, to organizing and advertising for a schoolyard sale by the end of term.

Throughout the course of the term, the students will learn how to be enterprising and creative. As part of these learning experiences they will develop skills of analysing, evaluating, financial literacy, teamwork and communication skills and at the same time learn about community engagement.
