VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards)

The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) curriculum identifies the learning that is important for students to succeed in school, at work, in their personal lives and in the community.

Toorak Primary School promotes excellence in learning by providing quality programs that challenge and interest all students. Our curriculum, based on the VELS, incorporates real-life experiences and is designed to stimulate and engage our students. We believe it is important to provide a variety of opportunities to support the development of the child as a whole.

VELS is divided into three strands of learning:
• Physical, Personal and Social Learning - Health and Physical Education, Personal Learning, Citizenship
• Discipline-based Learning - English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, The Arts, French
• Inter Disciplinary Learning - Communication, Design and Technology, Computers, Thinking
