Welcome to Year 5

Wow! What a start to the year we have had; where has the past five weeks gone?

Since the beginning of term, students have settled well into their new classes, routines and hit the ground running with their learning.

So far the students have written and published an outstanding piece of writing. The students were asked to write a historical narrative based on the colonisation of Australia, from there the students were free to make it their own. The creativity that students have tapped into has blown the year 5 teachers away (we might have had a few bragging moments in the staffroom as well). Starting from week 1 we kicked Magic Maths off with a bang. Students have been given opened ended problems that ensures they are thinking outside of the box and in most cases forcing students out of their comfort zone. Despite the children spending some quality time in the learning pit, it is wonderful to see the amount of progress made already – and it can only get better from here!

A couple of highlights from the past five weeks would be watching the students participate in the inter-house swimming, The students should be very proud of the effort and level of team spirit displayed on the day. A massive congratulations should be made to:

Haydon; Victoria; Harvey; Poppy; Lars; Allan; Ben; Annabel; Sophia; Saffron and Marli who represented Toorak Primary School in the Southport District Swimming Carnival.

The Year 5 District Swimming Team – Poppy Wallace is absent.
