Whooping Cough

There has been a diagnosed case of whooping cough in the grade 1 class at Toorak Primary School. Whooping cough is a respiratory infection and is extremely contagious. It usually starts with symptoms like a cold which last for approximately one week. After that, a more definite cough develops, which can last for many weeks. The cough comes in long spells and often ends with a high-pitched ‘whoop’ sound. Children who have been immunised can still get whooping cough.

Please visit your local doctor if your child has a persistent cough. In the event your child is diagnosed with whooping cough, he/she will be unable to attend school for at least 5 days provided antibiotics are administered. It is important you notify the office.
