Year 2 Excursion to Scienceworks!

Last week the Grade 2’s explored Scienceworks to support our inquiry topic of push and pull forces. The students were engaged and fascinated by the many exhibits on offer. They happily played in Nitty Gritty Super City where they could build their own structures as well as gaze at the Lego super city replica of Melbourne on display. Think Ahead was a fantastic exhibit where students were able to create their own futuristic cars, future selves and much, much more. Sportsworks was a popular exhibit where students could race against Olympic Gold medallist Cathy Freeman, compete in virtual reality sports, test their own ability in cognitive and physical tasks. To finish off the day, students attended a stage show exploring Push and Pull Forces. They explored the forces behind paper planes, trampolines, spinning tops, springs, beach balls and other toys found around the home. Thank you to the parents who came and assisted on the day, we know how much students enjoy sharing these days with you. Below are some photos and videos from the day.

“Scienceworks was educational and fun. I loved designing cars on the computers, some of mine were big and small and some were made from bamboo and carbon fibre, which is ten times stronger than steel. There was also a snowboard ride where you stand on it to follow a path and avoid trees, it was SO hard. I also liked the computer games where you give yourself body parts like robot hands and then hit targets with them.” Christian 2A

“My favourite part about Scienceworks was playing with my friends in the cafe. I also enjoyed building bricks and working on the boat lifting things. I also liked building a car and playing in Sportswork section. I got to race against Cathy Freeman and I beat her!” Ivy 2B

“Scienceworks was fantastic. I loved the climbing wall. We watched a show about Toys and pushing and pulling forces and that was pretty good. The game where we made computer cars was fantastic, I wish we had it at school.” Soroush 2A

“Scienceworks was amazing in every way! My favourite part was when I got to play on the pedalling piano. In the Sportswork section, I learnt how much I weighed and I had a go at wheelchair racing which I found to be quite hard.” Apollo 2B
