Assistant Principal Message- NAPLAN success and Child Safe Standards update

Dear Parents,

Term three has been a very busy but productive term for both students and their teachers. All members of the school community have had the opportunity, via surveys and focus groups, to share TPS highlights and areas for improvement. This feedback will form the strategic plan for the next four years.

A big success and cause for celebration has been our recent NAPLAN results. Grade 3 trended upward in all aspects of the NAPLAN assessment and grade 5 students tracked from grade 3 at Toorak showed extremely high growth in all areas too. The results will be presented to School Council in greater detail in week one of term 4 and then published for the school community to share in our celebration.

Child Safe Standards:

To ensure that all visitors and volunteers understand their role in adhering to the Child Safe Standards our VPASS office sign in system now has the agreement for you to read prior to signing in to the school. Please make sure that you or members of your family  always sign in at the office before entering the classrooms. Thank you for your support.

School Policies:

All relevant school policies are regularly reviewed by the Policy sub-committee and ratified by School Council. Please check the blog regularly for Policy updates. All policies are available on the school website under the:

OUR SCHOOL-Policies and Documentation

Student Code of Conduct:

A team of very capable grade 4 to 6 students are currently working with me to redevelop the Student Code of Conduct and expectations for student behaviour. Focus groups have been interviewed and year levels have submitted their ideas for final approval. With the help of the Code of Conduct team we will create a final version which will be shared with our school community in term 4.

Peer Mediation:

In term 4 teaching staff will be trained in implementing Peer Mediation restorative practices. The current grade 5s will be trained in Peer Mediation practices as part of their upcoming year 6 leadership roles. Senior students will also work with teaching staff in the Reflection Room in 2019 by undertaking restorative conversations to solve junior student issues. Very exciting times ahead for Student Voice at TPS.
