Confirmed Case of Chickenpox

Dear Parents,

We have recently received notification of a confirmed case of Chicken Pox in Prep. Whilst cases are limited, it is important for you to be aware of the symptoms. Please ensure you inform the school if your child presents with any of the below symptoms.

Chicken Pox usually begins with:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Followed by a generalised rash a day or so later.
  • Rash starts as itchy red spots but rapidly progresses to blisters.

Chickenpox is infectious 2 days prior to the onset of the rash until the blisters have all crusted into scabs. This is usually about 5 days after they appear. Children must not attend school during this time.

Please also note that pregnant women and newborn babies should not be exposed to people with active chickenpox.
