Family Maths Night fun!

Wow, what a fantastic turn out we had last Wednesday at our inaugural Family Maths Night. It was wonderful to see so many families working together to solve a variety of Maths activities – all whilst having FUN! Having the opportunity to walk around on the night, watching students and their parents problem solve together, was a great reminder that Maths can be challenging, yet also equally rewarding. Congratulations to Claudia (3C) who won the estimation counters competition and also Stella (4B) and Jack (1D) on winning the maths kit!

This year through the introduction of the new Magic Maths lessons, we are aiming to build each child’s confidence to persevere when faced with a challenging task in Maths. The students are beginning to understand what the ‘learning pit’ is and that it is ok to feel confused and unsure when faced with new Maths problem. By applying skills and strategies they have previously learnt, it enables them to move through, and eventually out of the learning pit, achieving success.

Keep looking for ways to make connections between Maths and your everyday lives.
