SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS – May 2016

On Tuesday evening, School Council held its May meeting. The usual format of these meetings is to consider reports and recommendations from each of the sub-committees, followed by a detailed discussion on one or two areas of the school’s operations.

This month, Council approved the school’s 2016 budget, and received the 2015 Annual Report. This Report was the basis of presentations at last Wednesday night’s Evening of Celebration, and we thanked Julie and the teachers for the interesting insights into our children’s progress and the improvement initiatives planned for this year.

We also noted a couple of recent successful events. Firstly, Asher Meyer-Cobb confidently presented the Junior School Council report and we loved hearing about the great use that Story Dogs team will make with the funds we raised. Secondly, we noted the positive feedback received from parents and children about the Mothers Day stall. We appreciated the involvement of all the volunteers, especially those who are new to the school. It’s great to see the community work together for these types of events.

At a practical level, we approved updates to a number of school policies including management of asthma and anaphylaxis, and SunSmart protection. These will be updated to the school website.

The last area we considered in detail were the results of the parent opinion survey from late 2015, which show continued improvement over the past 3 years. We were delighted to see the overwhelmingly positive comments about our engaged and supportive teachers, children who are happy to go to school and the connection parents feel with the school community. Council will continue to encourage and develop activities in this area.

If you are interested in knowing more about School Council or its sub-committees, you can talk to any of us in the photo, and there is information available on the school website.
