Foundation Number Groups: Money and Fractions

  Money and Fractions

$$$

In our Foundation Number Groups, a focus this week in some of the groups has been ‘Money’.  Students have experimented with counting and ordering money according to their value, adding money, and giving change. They did this through conducting their own shops and price list of items.

Prior to this students had learnt about ‘Fractions’ and made pizza’s, which they could sell in their shops by a whole, quarter, half  or eighths.  As a class at the end of each lesson, we added our intake for the day and compared which shops had made more or less money and inferred why.

See snapshots below!

Teacher: Lachie, why are you paying with $20.10?

Lachie: Because I don’t have the right amount of money for the milkshake ($10.10), so the shop keeper will give me $10.00 change.
