Grade 4 Charity Dinner

At the end of term 2, Grade 4’s celebrated by organising a charity dinner to raise funds to support people in Melbourne who are struggling to put food on their table. The initiative was inspired by the students excursion to ‘FareShare’s’ (a non-for-profit organisation that supports people with freshly prepared meals) market garden to help with the annual sweet potato harvest in the second week of term 2. The students raised over $700 which was donated to “Feed Melbourne Appeal”, an organisation that supports community food relief charities like FareShare. Many creative hours were spent by the students preparing placemats with messages advocating for less food wastage in our society.

On the day, the kids cooked up a storm in the TPS kitchen preparing healthy pumpkin soup made from scratch, cheesy twists and lemon tarts. Many amazing people and local businesses donated their time, skill and resources to help make the evening such a success. We are very thankful to Lucy who helped in the kitchen along with Chef Manu who created the menu and cooked with the students. We’d also like to thank the supporting local businesses: Danny from Woodfrog bakery who donated amazing freshly baked sourdough bread, Stocked Food Store which brought wonderful desserts and Toscano’s who provided the freshest vegetables for the soup.
