Over the past few weeks, years five and six have been developing their reading skills using the ‘Readers Notebook’. Readers Notebook is a tool the children use to take active notes whilst reading class novels, personal ‘just right books’, or any other texts.
They children have been encouraged to make these books personal to them; with many of them taking great pride in each of the pages and decorating according to themes of the book.
Any thinking can be put in the Readers Notebook. Please see the photos below. Furthermore, the children have enjoyed making character profiles, drawing settings according to their interpretations. They will often use post it notes to record their wanderings whilst they are reading.
The teachers have been super impressed with how dedicated the children are to making their Readers Notebook their own and the effort they have been putting into it, which you can see from the examples below.
