Hi Basketball Families,
As we go into the Easter school holidays and the mid-season break, the Toorak Basketball program is enjoying many good successes on the court with many of our teams near or at the top of their division ladders. Our Grade 1 Girls have two new teams, the Toorak Tasers and the Toorak Topguns. They’ve been training hard all of Term 1 and will enjoy their first competitive games against other local schools in the first week of Term 2. Go Toorak!
Last week, however, we have had a reminder of some of the risks competitive sports can bring. At training we had a major incident where a Grade 5 player ran into another player and suffered dental trauma that might unfortunately result in on going dental issues for the child involved.
We absolutely and unequivocally recommend the use of mouthguards by all players in games and also at training during sessions where heavy contact may occur. Personally moldable mouthguards are now cheap and readily available at Rebel Sport. We strongly urge parents to consider obtaining one and for coaches and team managers to encourage their use.
