Toorak Primary Girls Softball – South Eastern Metro Region Runner’s Up!

After a convincing victory in the Beachside Divisional finals, the Toorak Girls advanced to the South Eastern Metro Regionals in Frankston this past Monday. The girls have been training daily and have been committed to learning the game in order that they may put in a strong showing on the diamond.
The girls got off to a rocky start in the field in their first game against Dromana, but settled down once they got the bats in their hands. The girls excellent hitting paved the way to an opening win in Pool A. After a break, the girls returned to action against in a second game, a playoff with Beacon Hill, with the winner headed to the Grand Final against the Pool B champion.
The girls again got off to a difficult start in the field, allowing the maximum of 7 runs. They rebounded beautifully and answered with 7 runs of their own. The next inning, the girls defense shone, as they were able to get 3 quick outs and swing momentum their way. After another successful inning at bat, the girls kept the strong defence alive and took over the game. A second victory meant a trip to the Grand Final, with the winner going through to the State Championship.
Toorak met a very strong Hampton Primary side in the final. Unfortunately, the excellent hitting and fielding from the opponents kept our girls at bay, and we were unable to win the final. The girls showed fantastic character in defeat, playing hard until the final out. Our girls did Toorak Primary incredibly proud, finishing second in the region in just the first year we have entered a team! Most of the players had never played a game of softball until a few weeks ago, and have now developed a strong love for the game that they can continue on through high school.
