We’re continuing to get REAL

As you’re all aware we have a partnership with Real Schools and Adam Voigt. What you might not be aware of is the incredible effort the staff at TPS have been putting in to change our practice.

Some of the new initiatives we are implementing is the use of Affective Statements. These are statements that are used to express the impacts; including emotional of an action on individuals. They can be both positive and negative. An example of a positive affective statement could be, “I am pleased that you picked up the rubbish without being asked to”. An example of a negative affective statement could be, “it disappoints me, that you dropped that piece of rubbish.”

We have also been implementing circles into our classroom. There is a very detailed article on Real Schools that explains each type of circle. See below.

Finally, we have been working on incorporating Restorative Practices into our school behaviour management ethos. This is a strategy that seeks to repair relationships that have been damaged, using the past, present and future model. The past focuses on what has happened, the present is the impact the actions have had on others and the future is how we fix the harm caused.
