Day 3 Canberra Camp

Hi parents,

We’ve had another great day here in Canberra, starting off with a cruise down Embassy drive where students got to see the architecture of the high commissions and consulates of various countries.

All students then visited the Australian War Memorial, where they explored and viewed a range of artefacts and military memorabilia. The students understood the significance of Australia’s history and were incredibly respectful of the environment they were in.

Next stop – Parliament house. This was a real highlight for the students as they got the opportunity to role play the process of passing a bill in the Senate. Students then experienced sitting in both the Senate and the House of Representatives galleries and were again commended for their interaction, questioning skills and general behaviour.

Group 1 then took part in the Reconciliation Place walk, where a volunteer showed us artworks, stories and discussed the significance of acknowledging the history of Australia.

Group 2 – then visited the National Museum of Australia, where they saw a number of exhibits. Seeing Phar Lap’s heart up close was amazing!

After a yummy hamburger and salad for tea, we headed off to the National Dinosaur Museum. The wonderful guides provided the students with endless facts and knowledge about dinosaurs. Make sure you ask them what 3 characteristics classify a dinosaur.

Check the padlet for some great photos from today!
